The Accountant position at the City of Douglasville involves performing a variety of general accounting and bookkeeping functions. Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and cash management duties
  • Manage all bank accounts and credit card machines
  • Update capital assets monthly and research discrepancies with capital assets
  • Assist with monthly reconciling of accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Prepare, report and process all lease and debt payments
  • Complete all annual filings required
  • Complete monthly posting of expenses
  • Prepare supporting schedules, gather information, and provide documents for external auditors
  • Assist with annual Insurance renewal
  • Reconcile accounts receivable
  • Assist with budget as needed
  • Create ad-hoc reports as needed
  • Provide back-up for senior accounting specialist and controller
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field
  • Two (2) years of work experience in accounting, preferably in local government
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, particularly related to governmental accounting standards and regulations
  • Knowledge of government regulations, policies, and procedures related to financial management and accounting
  • Proficiency in computerized accounting systems and financial software, including Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and develop reports
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Problem-solving skills to identify solutions to complex financial issues
  • Strong ethical standards and ability to maintain confidentiality
