About the position

The Accountant position at Stanford University's Residential & Dining Enterprises involves performing moderately complex accounting activities, including monitoring accounts, preparing documentation, and reconciling expenditures. The role supports the financial management of a large auxiliary organization that serves over 13,000 students and manages a significant asset portfolio. This hybrid role offers flexibility for partial telecommuting and requires collaboration with various departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Process approximately 10K/year non-project AP transactions for various departments.
  • Manage AP accrual data at month-end close.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and correct discrepancies.
  • Review and compile accounting transactions for accuracy and compliance.
  • Contribute to analyses for key activities or decision-making.
  • Identify and resolve accounting issues and perform preliminary analysis.
  • Run, maintain, and validate financial data sets from multiple systems.
  • Assist in the preparation of basic management information reports.
  • Identify and resolve incorrect journal entries and data anomalies.
  • Collect data and perform research on transaction details.
  • Participate in project teams and contribute to change management strategies.
  • Recommend and assist in process improvements and workflow changes.
  • Develop and maintain desktop procedures and process documentation.
  • Serve as a liaison to resolve accounting-related issues.
  • May train and review the work of other staff.

Requirements

  • Associate degree plus two years of applicable experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in basic business applications, such as Microsoft Office, with user knowledge of Excel.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting systems and computer literacy.
  • Understanding of accounting skills and concepts.
  • Ability to draft professional communications and reports.
  • Ability to learn project management skills.
