About the position

The Accounting Manager at Halekulani is responsible for managing and controlling costs through various financial processes, including invoice reviews, inventory audits, and cost analyses. This role involves preparing monthly financial statements, assisting with budgeting, and ensuring compliance with governmental regulations. The ideal candidate will communicate effectively with corporate offices and department heads, contributing to the overall financial health of the hotel.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate files on financial backup for all journal entries assigned.
  • Review financial backup for accuracy and reasonableness.
  • Analyze account details.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts as assigned.
  • Complete month-end closing procedures including inventory and food and beverage costing.
  • Handle stop payment on lost or missing checks and prepare electronic payments for approval.
  • Perform periodic inventory reconciliations to identify variances and recommend process improvements.
  • Apply cost accounting policies to evaluate and report on labor and material costs.
  • Reconcile fixed asset additions and retirements, calculate depreciation, and prepare monthly journal entries.
  • Ensure compliance with various regulatory functions including GET, TAT, GLS, and 1099.
  • Maintain database and files for contracts, permits, and licenses.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable, Inventory, and Cost Analysis functions.
  • Assist with requests from auditors and tax accountants.
  • Assist in creating departmental and hotel-wide financial reporting procedures.
  • Develop and execute departmental policies and procedures for staff.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and report potential issues to management.
  • Determine and implement internal controls and processes for compliance with SOPs and GAAP.
  • Serve as the system champion for MS Dynamics, Adaco, and Sage 500.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • At least three years of related accounting experience, preferably in hotel accounting.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel and Word.
  • Proven experience with financial reporting tools and software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Previous hotel accounting experience is preferred.
  • Experience with financial reporting tools and software is preferred.
