About the position

The Accounting and Audit Manager at Aniles and Company, CPA Firm, plays a crucial role in delivering a wide array of accounting, auditing, and consulting services to a diverse clientele, which includes healthcare entities, not-for-profit organizations, commercial companies, state and local government entities, real estate firms, retail businesses, and professional services. This position is pivotal in maintaining strong client relationships while also overseeing and supporting the accounting team in their daily operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and auditing requirements. In this role, the Manager is responsible for assigning and auditing the work of the accounting staff, developing and implementing accounting systems, and ensuring the quality and compliance of the work performed by the team. The Manager will also provide technical support to both the team and clients, design and implement new programs to enhance accounting accuracy, and conduct special projects as needed. Evaluating the performance and growth of subordinates is a key responsibility, which includes interviewing, selecting, and assessing department personnel, as well as initiating promotions or disciplinary actions when necessary. The Manager will onboard new clients, develop work plans, and monitor project deliverables to ensure quality and timeliness. They will serve as a liaison between clients and auditors, supervise basic accounting procedures, and prepare financial statements and supporting schedules. Additionally, the Manager will analyze client financial performance, build strong relationships with client management and board members, and work closely with senior management to adapt to changing client needs. This position requires effective project management skills to meet deadlines and ensure maximum efficiency in completing engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Assign and audit the work of the accounting staff to develop, implement and/or maintain accounting systems.
  • Monitor workload and assignments of staff.
  • Serve as quality control and review timeliness, accuracy, and compliance for work performed by the team.
  • Provide technical support to the team and clients.
  • Design and implement new programs and procedures to improve accounting accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Conduct and analyze special projects.
  • Evaluate the performance, effectiveness, and growth of subordinates.
  • Ensure competency of subordinates through delegation of responsibility and education.
  • Interview, select, and evaluate the performance of department personnel.
  • Initiate wage increases, promotions, disciplinary actions, or terminations as required.
  • Onboard clients and develop work plans, scopes of work, and monitoring protocols.
  • Serve as client liaison with auditors.
  • Supervise all basic accounting procedures, financial statement preparation, month-end closing, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Review, analyze, and reconcile general ledger accounts and investment transactions.
  • Perform analysis of client financial performance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with client management and board members.
  • Work with Senior Manager/Principal to understand client needs and develop plans to meet expectations.
  • Facilitate and document key client communications and keep Principal informed on status of issues.
  • Monitor staff workloads, assignments, and performance.
  • Manage projects to meet deadlines and ensure project completion with maximum efficiency.
  • Responsible for quality control, corrective action plans, and work review.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or business-related field preferred.
  • MBA a plus.
  • CPA Required.
  • 5-10 years progressive accounting experience in public accounting or similar environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of general accounting principles including application of general accounting theory.
  • Strong leadership and proven supervisory skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Demonstrated mentoring, coaching, and organizational administrative skills required.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work and interact with department and client organizations.
  • Strong computer aptitude, including expertise with Microsoft Excel and Word as well as applicable accounting software.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) pronouncements.
  • Knowledge of the Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB) pronouncements.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and deadlines.

Nice-to-haves
