About the position

The Accounting & Budget Analyst at Hospice of the Valley will serve a dual role as both an accountant and a data analyst. This position is crucial for supporting financial reporting, analysis, budget management, and strategic planning within the organization. The ideal candidate will possess a strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, reconciles, and reviews all financial transactions.
  • Prepares monthly journal entries and posts to the general ledger, including Fixed Assets, Prepaids, and program revenue.
  • Performs monthly bank account and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Books and reconciles intercompany transactions to ensure accurate reporting across entities.
  • Investigates and resolves discrepancies.
  • Reviews financial statements for accuracy.
  • Participates in the annual financial audit and prepares accurate audit work papers.
  • Responds to questions and requests from auditors.
  • Researches and analyzes agency financial results and comparative hospice data.
  • Assists in the compilation of the audited financial statements.
  • Develops and monitors budgets in collaboration with department managers.
  • Analyzes budget performance and provides reports to management.
  • Conducts scenario analysis to support decision-making for program initiatives.
  • Meets with managers regularly to discuss department financials and budget variances.
  • Serves as a financial data resource for managers, providing support and analysis.
  • Gathers, compiles, and analyzes large amounts of data to identify trends and insights.
  • Prepares and submits required reporting, including government surveys and insurance renewal applications.
  • Completes and files AZ Uniform Accounting Report (UAR) and Medicare Cap Reports.
  • Reviews and submits property tax payments and reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Two to five years of progressive accounting and financial data analysis experience.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
