About the position

The Accounting and Payroll Manager plays a crucial role in managing the accounting cycle and ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of financial processes within the organization. This position involves overseeing payroll processing, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring compliance with HR policies and federal laws. The manager will also support financial reporting and budgeting, coordinate audits, and maintain vendor files, contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of accounting functions.
  • Support program requests by providing financial reporting and budgeting assistance.
  • Process payroll and prepare bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Review trial balance for accuracy and completeness.
  • Record and post journal entries for monthly financial activity.
  • Coordinate information and documents for annual audit process and 990.
  • Lead month-end close process in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accounts payable vendor files and oversee credit card procedures.
  • Monitor and adhere to written HR policies and procedures that comply with federal employment laws.
  • Manage payroll process in its entirety, including bi-monthly payroll and general ledger entries.
  • Coordinate with payroll service provider to process annual W-2 earnings statements.
  • Ensure COBRA compliance and reconcile premiums as needed.
  • Provide backup front desk assistance as needed and attend required agency meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in accounting and/or financial reporting is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required, including demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Paylocity strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of nonprofit organizations strongly preferred.
