About the position

The Accounting and Payroll Specialist position involves a dynamic mix of responsibilities including payroll processing, benefits administration, and accounts receivable/payable tasks. This role is essential for maintaining smooth operations within the company, providing job security and a collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Guide new employees through onboarding processes.
  • Administer benefits and payroll processing.
  • Prepare and submit Certified Payroll to the Department of Labor and project owners.
  • Verify and track Certified Payroll.
  • Initiate banking direct deposit transactions for payroll taxes and 401(K).
  • File quarterly State of Alaska unemployment reports and assist with 941 preparation.
  • Reconcile and pay payroll-related invoices, including benefits and union dues.
  • Maintain bank registers and reconcile bank accounts and credit cards.
  • File Notice of Work/Notice of Completion with the Department of Labor and pay fees as required.
  • Enter invoices and export after approval for processing in accounts payable.
  • Assist with accounts payable duties as needed.
  • Welcome visitors and answer incoming telephone calls.
  • Prepare and submit union agreements to the appropriate union.
  • Complete and submit various employee forms, such as unemployment and wage verification forms.
  • Maintain all employee records, including new hires and layoffs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of accounting experience.
  • 2 years of payroll experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply rules and regulations in a regulated industry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to drive and pick up supplies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree in General Studies, Business Administration, or Accounting.
  • 2 years of construction industry-related experience.
  • 3 years of accounting experience.
  • 3 years of payroll experience.
