About the position

The Accounting and Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing payroll and performing various accounting duties for Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Michigan. This role involves managing payroll for approximately 200 employees, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with federal and state filing requirements. The position also includes accounts payable and receivable tasks, as well as assisting with external financial audits.

Responsibilities

• Process bi-weekly payroll for approximately 200 employees
• Maintain automated time and attendance and payroll records
• Review and verify data accuracy and source documents to ensure timely and accurate timesheet submissions
• Monitor and resolve employee payroll questions in a confidential manner
• Assist with federal and state filing requirements including W-2s and 1099s
• Identify and suggest process improvement changes to enhance the overall payroll process
• Process Accounts Payable
• Process Accounts Receivable and cash receipts and monitor aging
• Assist with other projects and duties as assigned in the normal course of business
• Assist with the external financial audit

Requirements

• Must have 2+ years of payroll processing experience and general bookkeeping experience
• Preference to in-house payroll experience
• Knowledge of payroll related regulatory standards
• Basic accounting knowledge of balance sheet, profit loss, chart of accounts
• Excellent problem resolution with strong attention to detail
• Organizational and planning skills
• Must be able to work independently
• Must be able to bend, stretch, reach and lift to 20 pounds, walking or standing to a significant degree
