About the position

The Accounting Associate position at Montgomery County Women's Center involves managing various accounting functions, including payroll processing, compliance with financial regulations, and financial reporting. The role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. The associate will also collaborate with colleagues to communicate financial concepts effectively and foster a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll and record appropriate transactions.
  • Manage child support garnishments, levies, or any other mandated garnishments.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and submit timely reports, including payroll tax reports and sales reports.
  • Verify and process education program reimbursements and provide reports as needed.
  • Prepare and analyze billings for federal, state, and private funders.
  • Allocate, track, and report contract-funded expenses accurately and provide reports to ensure compliance with grant terms.
  • Review operating and program budgets to identify trends and facilitate long-term planning.
  • Prepare data and documentation for programmatic and contract monitoring visits.
  • Prepare and make bank deposits as needed.
  • Assist with preparations and distribution of financial reports.
  • Prepare W-2's and maintain records of attendance, turnover, and overtime.
  • Assist with monthly and year-end closings, financial reporting, and general accounting activities.
  • Assist in preparation of year-end work papers for the external auditor and facilitate the audit process.
  • Communicate financial and accounting concepts clearly to colleagues without a finance background.
  • Foster a positive, productive, and collaborative working environment.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or business administration or equivalent experience.
  • Five years working in a business setting and three years of supervisory experience.
  • Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Proficient in MS Office with advanced Excel experience and QuickBooks.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in finance and/or business administration.
  • Experience working in nonprofit and/or fund accounting.
  • Knowledge of federal/state grant requirements.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions Non-Profit.
