About the position

The Assistant Vice President of Accounting and Claims at BMS Re will serve as a consultant and advisor to sales teams, clients, and reinsurers on various reinsurance accounting and claim issues. This role focuses on developing creative solutions to enhance client service, managing large accounts, and providing technical reinsurance expertise. The position involves facilitating communication between ceding companies and reinsurers, ensuring timely processing of accounts and claims, and assisting with strategy development and training for team members.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Account Manager on large or complex accounts and manage relationships between ceding companies and reinsurers.
  • Facilitate work streams with team members to ensure timely completion of daily tasks for clients.
  • Review and understand terms of reinsurance contracts and program structures.
  • Ensure timely receipt and transmittal of accounts, adjustments, and premium transactions.
  • Evaluate and process reinsurance claims in accordance with contract language and company standards.
  • Manage collection of funds, queries, and outstanding issues between reinsurers and ceding companies until resolution.
  • Conduct timely and regular claim follow-ups.
  • Evaluate clients' potential unauthorized reinsurance penalties and obtain funding of reserves from unauthorized reinsurers.
  • Produce and respond to written/verbal communications effectively and appropriately within company standards.
  • Travel to client and reinsurer offices as needed to support sales teams and BMS operating units.
  • Assist with coordination of client onboarding, integration, and data transfers.
  • Communicate with various technical managers and personnel: IT, Contract Writing, Compliance/Audit, Finance, Legal, Actuarial, and HR.
  • Serve as a technical reinsurance resource for Analysts and Senior Analysts and assist with training.
  • Develop and implement procedures and training programs for BMS operating and production units and clients.
  • Adapt quickly to rapidly changing technologies and systems.
  • Create effective and efficient processes and solutions with the team.
  • Ensure smooth system conversions flow and perform specialized functions and special projects as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in Accounting, Finance, Math, Economics, or a similarly quantitative or analytically oriented major.
  • Five or more years of reinsurance experience at Analyst level (or above) or significant experience in insurance/reinsurance claims or accounting operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Organizational abilities with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Analytical and problem-solving capabilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive and forward-thinking with good planning skills.
  • Ability to adapt and respond well to change and pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in managing large accounts in reinsurance or insurance sectors.
  • Familiarity with reinsurance accounting processes and claims management.
