About the position

We are seeking an Accounting Clerk (Bookkeeper) to join our CPA firm in Winston-Salem, NC. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, be a team player, be attentive to detail and demonstrate exceptional judgement. The Accounting Clerk must be strategic-minded, proactive, a problem solver, and able to manage complex tasks for multiple clients. This individual should be organized and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with peers and interact with clients and partners. This is a significant role in a busy office requiring professional maturity, integrity, and honesty. The responsibilities of the Accounting Clerk include maintaining accurate financial records for clients, performing accounts receivable and accounts payable tasks, inputting and/or importing transactions and classifying them within accounting software, performing monthly bank and credit card reconciliations, preparing and posting journal entries into the general ledger, and preparing interim financial reporting packages for clients. Additionally, the role involves preparing monthly sales tax reports, processing client payroll, calculating payroll tax payments, and preparing payroll compliance reports. The Accounting Clerk will also provide accounting and tax support to clients and staff as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records for clients
  • Perform accounts receivable and accounts payable tasks
  • Input and/or import transactions and classify within accounting software
  • Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Prepare and post journal entries into general ledger
  • Prepare interim financial reporting packages for clients
  • Prepare monthly sales tax reports
  • Process client payroll
  • Calculate payroll tax payments and prepare payroll compliance reports
  • Provide accounting and tax support to clients and staff as requested

Requirements

  • 3-5 years current experience in public accounting firm/industry
  • 2-year degree in accounting or related field (Minimum)
  • General bookkeeping knowledge and fundamental understanding of accounting principles & practices
  • Strong computer skills, proficiency in MS Office Suite and familiarity with accounting software, preferably QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online
  • Possess critical thinking skills and be able to collect, analyze and interpret data
  • Highly motivated with strong sense of personal responsibility
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while adhering to established deadlines
  • Strong organization & time management skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with highly sensitive information
  • Desire to learn and desire to grow

Nice-to-haves
