About the position

The Accounting & Finance Temporary Lecturer Pool at San Jose State University is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in accounting, finance, and taxation. The role emphasizes effective teaching, student engagement, and the organization of course materials within the Canvas Learning Management System. Lecturers are expected to maintain office hours, prepare syllabi, evaluate student work, and participate in faculty meetings. This position is contingent upon departmental needs and may be renewed based on performance and funding.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in accounting, finance, and taxation.
  • Maintain weekly office hours for student engagement and support.
  • Prepare course syllabi and materials using the Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Create and evaluate student exams and assignments.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and contribute to curriculum decisions.
  • Organize classes in various formats (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, hybrid) as scheduled.
  • Address the diverse needs of students through inclusive teaching strategies.

Requirements

  • MS or higher degree in Accounting, Taxation, or Finance, or an MBA with an emphasis in accounting or finance.
  • Current knowledge of the discipline assigned for teaching.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional experience in finance, accounting, or taxation.
  • Professional designations such as Chartered Financial Analyst or Certified Public Accountant.
  • Excellent teaching experience at the university level.
