About the position

Internships at UnitedHealth Group offer a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a rapidly evolving healthcare marketplace. This full-time summer internship is designed for students who are currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting and are looking to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting. The internship will commence in June 2025 and is not intended for graduating seniors. Please note that housing and relocation assistance are not available for this position, and UnitedHealth Group is unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. Interns will have the chance to explore various areas within the company, including Controllership Accounting, Financial Analysis, Regulatory Accounting, Tax, and Audit. Throughout the internship, you will be responsible for maintaining general ledger accounts, preparing financial statements, and assisting with the month-end close process. This experience will not only enhance your technical skills but also provide you with insights into the complexities of the healthcare system and the financial operations that support it. Responsibilities

  • Maintain general ledger accounts and related activities for the production of financial statements and reports
  • Reconcile, analyze and review general ledger accounts in preparation for month end close
  • Prepare journal entries and review accounting classifications, in accordance with generally-accepted accounting principles
  • Prepare documentation in support of external and internal audits
  • Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis and investigate issues providing explanations and interpretation
  • Analyze and prepare financial statements, including balance sheets and statements of financial position
  • Assist with the month quarterly end close process for assigned businesses or groups

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting from an accredited college/university during the duration of the internship
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization
