Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Finance with month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Reconcile assigned accounts and review reconciliations of others, resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support for professional development.
  • Prepare journal entries and review those of others for accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Manage assigned expense allocations and ensure compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and reports for accuracy and compliance.
  • Monitor and analyze budget variances, providing insights and recommendations to management.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable processing, ensuring timely payments and collections.
  • Assist with annual audits, liaising with external auditors for timely completion.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies, including tax filings.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment within the finance team.
  • Maintain and improve financial systems and accounting software.
  • Implement process improvements to enhance departmental efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Valid Class C Driving License.
  • 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong initiative, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves
