About the position

The Accounting Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing multiple functions within the Accounting Department, including Financial Statement Preparation, Financial Reporting, Technical Accounting Research, Treasury, and other General Accounting Functions. This position is responsible for maintaining accounting systems, processes, and internal controls to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and other statutory requirements. The Accounting Manager will assist in coordinating the annual audit, tax, regulatory compliance filings, and monthly closing processes, ensuring that all financial activities align with the company's goals and objectives. The role requires a proactive approach to managing journal entries, account reconciliations, and the preparation of financial statements in compliance with US GAAP. The Accounting Manager will also participate in the preparation for annual audits, prepare workpapers, and facilitate auditor inquiries. This position demands strong analytical skills to perform reconciliations and analysis of bank and general ledger accounts, as well as the ability to document and review processes and internal controls to comply with accounting standards and best practices. The successful candidate will keep abreast of current trends and practices in the accounting profession and make recommendations for continuous improvement. In addition to technical accounting skills, the Accounting Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the department, manage overall operational and budgetary responsibilities, and provide oversight and direction to employees. This includes coaching, mentoring, and developing staff, as well as managing performance deficiencies in a timely manner. The role also involves anticipating and planning appropriate staffing levels and creating a workplace culture consistent with the organization's core values.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation of the annual financial statements in compliance with US GAAP including footnotes and supporting documentation.
  • Participate in the preparation for annual audit, prepare workpapers, help facilitate the auditor understanding and answer audit inquiries.
  • Perform technical accounting research, including drafting of accounting policies and internal/external memorandum.
  • Document and review processes and internal controls to comply with accounting standards and best practices.
  • Manage journal entries and account reconciliations for monthly or annual closing.
  • Perform reconciliations and analysis of bank and general ledger accounts.
  • Monitor current department accounting systems and procedures and revise as needed.
  • Liaison between auditors, tax, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare required governmental reports and respond to inquiries.
  • Review weekly cash flow reports and analyze as required.
  • Administer preparation of monthly financial reporting and perform analysis.
  • Verify support schedules to general ledger control accounts.
  • Review and monitor the chart of accounts in the general ledger to improve controls.
  • Keep abreast of current trends, practices, and developments in the profession.
  • Make recommendations for implementation and continuous improvement.
  • Assume other special activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.
  • Coordinate year end audit review for external audit staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five years' general accounting experience.
  • Two years as a manager of an accounting department.
  • Working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems, preferably in a SAAS environment.
  • Well organized with strong analytical and reasoning abilities.
