About the position

The Accounting Manager for Commercial Finance at Mattel is responsible for leading the accounting team for the North America region, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal practices. This role involves managing the close process, financial reporting, and audits while providing critical insights on financial performance for a $3B+ portfolio. The position requires collaboration with various finance teams and leadership to drive continuous improvement in accounting processes.

Responsibilities

  • Co-manage the region's close process and ensure accurate and timely completion of transactions, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Apply US GAAP and Corporate Accounting policies, seeking guidance in complex situations.
  • Represent the North American business unit on the Next Generation Finance project.
  • Lead the accurate and timely issuance of month-end, quarter, and annual financial reports.
  • Manage and monitor critical accounts such as accounts receivable, sales, and inventory.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits with leadership and the Corporate Controller's office.
  • Analyze the region's financial results regarding profits, trends, costs, and compliance with budgets.
  • Review yearly SOX requirements from external auditors and update policies and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with governmental finance and accounting regulations.
  • Issue regular status reports to leadership on financial performance and special projects.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for various questions, ad hoc projects, and problem resolutions.
  • Work with other finance teams to understand financial drivers and provide critical reporting and analysis.
  • Develop a close working relationship with the shared services function, overseeing AP invoice entry, payment processing, and AR collections.
  • Lead performance management and appraisals for direct reports, providing developmental feedback.
  • Drive continuous improvement for accounting/finance processes.

Requirements

  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in various accounting capacities, with a proven track record.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Expertise in technical accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and project management.
  • Effective in working through a highly matrixed structure to deliver solutions.
  • Demonstrated innovative and entrepreneurial thinking.

Nice-to-haves

  • Industry experience with multinational consumer products companies preferred.
  • 6 years of experience with a Master's degree.
