About the position

The Accounting Manager at Cummins Inc. is responsible for overseeing a team of accountants and managing complex revenue accounting processes. This role involves maintaining the company's general ledger, resolving accounting issues, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will lead the team in improving accounting processes, implementing internal controls, and providing training to staff, all while maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding the organization's financial information.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of accountants, providing guidance, support, and training as needed.
  • Oversee the recording, analyzing, and reporting of accounting transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of general ledger entries, account reconciliations, internal and external reports, schedules, and financial statements.
  • Respond to inquiries from management, internal and external auditors, and other stakeholders regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
  • Regularly review existing internal controls and develop new controls as necessary to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure compliance.
  • Make and implement recommendations to enhance accounting processes and procedures for greater efficiency and accuracy.
  • Implement new accounting standards and ensure the team is up-to-date with the latest regulations and practices.
  • Provide training to new and existing staff to ensure they are knowledgeable and proficient in their roles.
  • Protect the organization's value by maintaining the confidentiality of financial information and sensitive data.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in distribution and/or complex revenue accounting, including supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with finance systems and tools such as Oracle, Bolt, BMS, Salesforce, and Ariba.
  • Ability to develop and deliver multi-mode communications tailored to various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing talent and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Proven ability to provide direction, delegate tasks, and manage projects effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in complex environments.
  • Experience in evaluating business processes to identify risks and internal control gaps.
  • Ability to interpret financial data and analyze trends, variances, opportunities, and risks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in financial reporting and compliance with US GAAP regulations.
  • Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley audit requirements.
