About the position

The Accounting Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial records. This position involves managing the general ledger, supervising a small team of accounting professionals, and ensuring the timely closing of the monthly accounting cycle. The Accounting Manager will actively participate in the annual audit process, assist in budget preparation, and review federal and state filings, including 1099s, 990s, and Form 5500. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility and self-motivation. They will be committed to maintaining high standards of excellence in their work and will be responsible for the overall integrity of the organization's accounting and financial records. In this role, the Accounting Manager will oversee the accounts payable function, manage journal entries, and ensure the accuracy of investment entries. They will be responsible for reviewing general ledger accounts and bank account reconciliations, maintaining accounts receivable, and ensuring proper and timely month-end closings. The Accounting Manager will also review accounting data, identify and correct errors in transactions, and apply accounting principles in adherence to GAAP. This position requires strong analytical skills to monitor accounting records and solve any accounting problems that may arise. The Accounting Manager will supervise accounts payable and revenue accountant positions, playing a major role in the preparation for the annual audit. Additionally, they will prepare internal monthly financial reports and assist in the budget process as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees accounts payables function and journal entries
  • Responsible for investment entries
  • Responsible for GL accounts and review of bank account reconciliations
  • Maintenance of accounts receivable
  • Ensures proper and timely month-end closings
  • Reviews accounting data, identifies and corrects errors in accounting transactions
  • Applies accounting principles and ensures adherence to GAAP
  • Supervises accounts payable and revenue accountant positions
  • Plays a major role in annual audit preparation
  • Assist with preparation of 1099, 990 and State Filings, and Form 5500
  • Prepares internal monthly financial reports
  • Assist in the budget process and review as needed
  • 941 quarterly reconciliations
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the CFO

Requirements

  • CPA preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting
  • At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting required
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting theory, concepts, and practices applicable to accounting requirements for nonprofits
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff members and vendors
  • Strong analytical skills for monitoring accounting records and solving accounting problems
  • Excellent judgment and ability to handle confidential information with care and discretion
  • Highly organized and ability to multi-task
  • Experience in Blackbaud Financial Edge accounting system a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated belief in Posse's mission and values
