About the position

The Accounting Manager, Payroll at Fanatics is responsible for overseeing payroll accounting activities, ensuring compliance with GAAP and SOX regulations, and managing the month-end close process. This role involves providing analytical support, supervising staff, and collaborating with various internal departments to maintain accurate payroll records and resolve discrepancies. The position requires a strong understanding of payroll processes and the ability to lead a high-performance team while ensuring financial controls are upheld.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accounting, processing, and analytical support for payroll accounting activities.
  • Collect, track, analyze, report, and reconcile payroll accounting activity on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Prepare and record monthly the annual bonus accrual at the employee level for all Fanatics verticals.
  • Manage month-end close process around payroll accounting including review and/or preparation of various journal entries, accruals, estimates, reclasses, and financial statement analysis of assigned areas.
  • Quarterly true-up of PTO accrual.
  • Self-health accounting including monthly allocations to each vertical, balance sheet reconciliations, and analysis outlining vendor payments.
  • Review and/or prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and flux analysis for various accounts related to payroll.
  • Timely resolution of discrepancies, working with various internal and external partners (ADP).
  • Maintain/recommend a strong financial controls environment and compliance with GAAP & SOX processes.
  • Supervise and develop staff, providing necessary training and feedback.
  • Partner with HR & HRIS team to develop/maintain policies surrounding properly approved employee data changes in the payroll system.
  • Provide necessary support for quarterly, interim, and annual audit requests from external auditors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field preferred.
  • 3 years of full cycle payroll accounting experience including tax and benefit calculations required.
  • 6 years of experience in accounting, with 3 years of supervisory experience required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end payroll process.
  • Experience with all payroll functions, including classifications and department allocations.
  • Ability to work in a high production environment and respond quickly to changing priorities.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as strong customer service skills.
  • Solid foundation in GAAP and SOX regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle Fusion (ERP & HCM), Oracle EBS, Alteryx, and/or UltiPro/UKG.
  • CPA designation is a major plus.
