About the position

The Shared Services Accounting Manager for Sales & Use Tax at Novanta is responsible for overseeing state-related indirect tax calculations, reconciliations, reporting, and audit support. This role requires expertise in indirect tax compliance and involves collaboration with various teams to ensure accurate tax processes and workflows. The position also includes managing audits and implementing tax software solutions, while staying updated on tax developments and legislative changes.

Responsibilities

• Review business sales & use tax, gross receipts, and property tax returns and supporting documentation to ensure accurate and timely tax compliance.
• Manage all indirect tax audits, inquiries, and data gathering.
• Lead the implementation of a use tax software solution.
• Support improving, automating, and implementing tax processes and workflows.
• Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations for sales & use tax and other non-income tax accounts to ensure accuracy.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on indirect tax issues (Sales, Customer Care, Accounts Payable, Credit & Collections, Procurement, IT).
• Train cross-functional teams on indirect tax requirements.
• Support M&A diligence specific to sales and use tax and property tax.
• Keep up to date on new tax developments and legislative changes.
• Other special projects and tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA or MBA a plus
• 8+ years of indirect tax experience
• Experience with top tier ERP systems
• Experience with Alteryx and Avalara is a plus
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel
• Prior experience in a manufacturing environment
• Strong presentation and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently, proactively and self-manage competing priorities
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills
• Project management experience preferred.
