About the position

Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager monitors, controls, and audits all financial transactions at the McCormick Place Convention Center/Wintrust Arena. This role performs a full range of professional accounting duties involved in fiscal management, record keeping, reporting, and financial analysis of the facility. The Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of all accounting functions, which include general ledger management, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. This position plays a critical role in the financial health of the venue, requiring a keen eye for detail and the ability to meet deadlines while working collaboratively with various levels of management. The Accounting Manager will perform key tasks such as entering data into accounting software for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general journal entries. They will review all contracts related to clients, events, subcontractors, and food and beverage services. Additionally, this role involves processing and preparing account receivable invoices and managing event deposit processes for both the Convention Center and the Arena. The Accounting Manager will also assist with month-end closing procedures, prepare monthly financial statements, and conduct financial performance analyses to recommend actions that align with business goals. This position requires a proactive approach to financial management, including the preparation of bank reconciliations, balance sheet account reconciliations, and the coordination of year-end reports. The Accounting Manager will also direct internal audits, examine financial documents for accuracy, and assist the Director of Finance with budget preparation and financial reporting. The role is essential for maintaining the integrity of financial operations and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to accounting and auditing work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all general accounting functions including general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
  • Key data into accounting software for A/P, A/R, and general journal entries.
  • Review all contracts for client, events, subcontractors, food and beverage or concessionaires.
  • Process and prepare account receivable invoices and other Show Management Invoices.
  • Serve as back-up for Night of Show settlements at Wintrust Arena.
  • Review Arena tenant settlements.
  • Manage Event Deposit process for Convention Center and Arena.
  • Verify & post entries to general ledger accounts; run trial balances.
  • Assist with month end closing procedures and adjusting journal entries.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for the Client and OVG Corporate, and other financial reports, including monthly statements, Annual Budget and Annual Report.
  • Analyze financial performance and cost analyses for all departments; recommend appropriate actions/changes in order to meet business goals.
  • Prepare select event settlements and generate account transfers or check payments.
  • Perform analysis of accounting records; prepare event profitability statements.
  • Prepare and perform bank reconciliations.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and select GL Accounts.
  • Support cash management and daily cash flow monitoring within the Finance department.
  • Direct internal audits involving review of accounting and administrative controls.
  • Audit receipts and disbursements to ensure accuracy for public shows and resolve credit card charge backs.
  • Examine and verify a variety of financial documents and reports.
  • Assist Director of Finance with budget preparation, financial reporting, and analyses.
  • Coordinate year-end report of fiscal performance for the General Manager's report.
  • Apply Federal, State, and local laws and regulations pertaining to accounting and auditing work.
  • Direct the installation and maintenance of any new accounting, timekeeping, payroll, inventory, and other related procedures and controls.
  • Establish system controls for new financial systems and develop procedures to improve existing systems.
  • Review financial statements with management personnel.
  • Act as Manager on Duty as required.
  • Other miscellaneous projects and duties as assigned by Director of Finance.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business administration or a closely related field.
  • 3-5 years of professional accounting experience, preferably including some supervisory experience.
  • Some experience in the venue management industry preferred but not required.
  • Must be accurate and efficient with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Capable of working with all levels of management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
  • Knowledge of ERP and Ungerboeck Software preferred.
