About the position

The Accounting Manager, College is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the College's accounting functions and maintaining the general ledger. This role involves providing comprehensive financial reporting, conducting budget reviews, and offering various accounting support services. The Accounting Manager will collaborate closely with leadership to analyze financial data and reports, ensuring that accurate and timely financial recommendations are made to facilitate informed decision-making. This position is hybrid, requiring commuting to the DC Metro area, and emphasizes the importance of maintaining sound financial practices within the organization. In this role, the Accounting Manager will plan, evaluate, execute, and measure activities in accordance with departmental guidelines, including deliverables, budget, and timelines. They will oversee the work of the accounting staff, establishing necessary procedures to ensure the timely and accurate completion of accounting tasks and general ledger maintenance. The manager will also investigate discrepancies with third-party sites and manage the month-end closing process to allow for accurate financial analysis. The Accounting Manager will develop, maintain, and analyze reconciliations and budgets for capital assets and depreciation expenses. They will assist with financial statement audits and other required audits, determining the proper handling of financial transactions and approving them within designated limits. Additionally, the manager will review and modify procedures to maintain robust internal controls, ensuring that system designs and processes support accuracy and accountability. They will coordinate with the American Congress of OBGyn PAC, retrieve quarterly reports, prepare journal entries, and reconcile general ledger balances. The role also involves examining general ledger accounts, collecting information, performing reconciliations, and preparing adjustment entries. The Accounting Manager will reconcile general ledger accounts to third-party sites, investigate variances, and provide recommendations for improvements. They will be responsible for calculating, filing, and processing sales tax payments to states and reconciling the main operating bank account. The manager will consistently apply an equity lens to their work, addressing the structural implications and disproportionate impacts of policies and decisions. Special projects and direction for Accounts Receivable processes will also be part of their responsibilities, along with performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, evaluate, execute, and measure activities in accordance with departmental guidelines to include deliverables, budget, and timeline.

  • Investigate discrepancies with third-party sites.

  • Assist with the financial statement audit and any other audits as required.
  • Determine proper handling of financial transactions and approve transactions within designated limits.
  • Review and modify procedures to maintain sound internal controls; ensure system design and processes support accuracy and accountability; follow up on recommendations made by internal and external auditors for changes.
  • Coordinate with American Congress of OBGyn PAC; retrieve quarterly report, prepare journal entry, post and reconcile general ledger balance.
  • Examine general ledger accounts, collect information, perform reconciliation, and prepare adjustment entries.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts to third-party sites and investigate variance to provide recommendations for change and improvement.
  • Calculate, file, and process payment of sales tax to states.
  • Reconcile the main operating bank account.
  • Work with an equity lens and analysis into work product by addressing structural implications and disproportionate impacts of policies, activities, and decisions.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
  • Provide direction for Accounts Receivable processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or similar field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience required.
  • Minimum of one to two years of supervisory experience required.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and tax law related to not-for-profit organizations.
  • Ability to interact positively with member/volunteer officers in management of their district and section financial affairs.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Business Central preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills; Adaptive insights skills preferred.
  • Ability to think creatively, highly driven and self-motivated.
  • Ability to travel.
