About the position

Seco Tools is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead the accounting organization from our North American Headquarters in Troy, MI. This role is pivotal in overseeing operations in the US, Canada, and assisting in Mexico. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing general accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and corporate reporting, as well as providing tax and compliance support. The position requires a strong leader who can effectively communicate and collaborate within a global organization, ensuring that financial operations align with business objectives and support decision-making processes. The Accounting Manager will play a crucial role in understanding the business unit's objectives and financial needs, striving to improve financial support for decision-making and process improvement. This includes managing monthly financial reports, conducting variance and trend analyses, and assisting in the development of directed interval forecasts for Sweden. The role also involves analyzing current and past trends in key performance indicators, including revenue, cost of goods, SG&A expenses, and capital expenditures, to drive accountability and ownership within the team. In addition to these responsibilities, the Accounting Manager will develop tools to identify and forecast financial results based on a detailed review of operational metrics. They will analyze cash flow, cost control, and expenses, collaborating with business management to implement improvements. The role requires performing economic and industry analyses to identify and recommend response strategies to trends impacting the business, thereby driving the budgeting and strategic planning process. Furthermore, the Accounting Manager will support the need for ad-hoc reporting and presentations, including business reviews and management presentations, and will present monthly results to senior management, emphasizing the understanding of results and underlying causes of operating results. The position also involves managing accounts payable, ensuring timely and accurate payment of vendor invoices, and establishing relationships with new and existing vendors. The Accounting Manager will oversee various reconciliations, sales/use tax returns, and maintain the fixed assets accounting system in Sage/M3. This role is essential for ensuring the financial integrity and operational efficiency of Seco Tools North America.

Responsibilities

  • Strive to improve financial support for decision making and process improvement
  • Drive accountability and ownership
  • Manage monthly financial reports, including forecasts and variance and trend analyses
  • Assist in developing and managing a directed interval forecast for Sweden
  • Analyze current and past trends in key performance indicators including all areas of revenue, cost of goods, SG&A expenses, and capital expenditures
  • Develop tools to identify and forecast financial results based on a detailed review of operational metrics
  • Analyze cash flow, cost control and expenses
  • Collaborate with business management to develop and implement improvements
  • Perform economic and industry analyses to identify and recommend response strategies to trends which impact the business
  • Support need for ad-hoc reporting and presentations, including business reviews and management presentations
  • Present monthly results to senior management with emphasis on helping them understand results and underlying causes of operating results
  • Communicate effectively within a global organization to understand and explain results, highlighting opportunities and risks to management
  • Perform various daily, weekly or monthly reconciliations, sundry billings, sales tax code reviews
  • Transfer to GL interface the payroll distribution journal entry created from payroll administrator files
  • Accumulate data for and prepare sales/use tax returns as well as any other external requests for required information
  • Maintain fixed assets accounting system in Sage/M3
  • Manage accounts payable using accounting software and other programs
  • Establish and maintain relationships with new and existing vendors
  • Ensure vendor invoices are paid in a timely and accurate manner while adhering to departmental procedures
  • Process due invoices for payments

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, CPA preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting
  • Experience in all aspects of financial operations
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and team management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Analytical skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze and present complex information clearly
