About the position

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and managing the accounting team. This role involves preparing reconciliations, reviewing expenses, facilitating month-end closes, and resolving accounting issues. The Accounting Manager will also provide training and development for staff, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and calculate managers' commissions.
  • Review and approve branch overhead expenses and perform cost comparisons to ensure the lowest costs.
  • Facilitate and monitor station month-end preliminary financial close.
  • Oversee domestic closing process each month.
  • Monitor the reconciliation and analysis of all accounts.
  • Communicate and resolve company-wide accounting issues through leadership, proactive assistance and support.
  • Develop, oversee, train and advise staff on routine accounting matters, special projects, general accounting procedures and company policies.
  • Review, audit, analyze and interpret financial schedules and reports for senior management.
  • Ensure proper and timely billings to customers.
  • Monitor and actively analyze accounts receivable.
  • Follow-up on delinquent accounts with station operations staff and customers.
  • Resolve inter-company billing issues.
  • Review and approve billing corrections, check requests and post journal entries.
  • Provide training to accounting and operational staff on in-house accounting systems.
  • Develop written policies and procedures for the accounting function.
  • Utilize superior communications skills to motivate staff and develop effective working relationships with peers, executives and clients.
  • Oversee and manage the professional development and productivity of all staff members to ensure proper goals, training, professional development and project requirements are met.
  • Personally coach, train and mentor direct reports and provide career development opportunities through training, and quality management activities.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for all staff within department and address all employee performance problems promptly and in accordance with personnel policies of the company.
  • Keep abreast of emerging technology changes and innovations through formal or informal study, reading business and professional publications, networking, and participation in professional organizations.
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to manage the financial functions of a department or assigned area including purchasing and budget preparation, review financial reporting and monitor expenses.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific software applications.
  • Capable of communicating and interacting effectively with multi-functional and diverse backgrounds and effectively presenting information and responding to questions from senior management, clients, customers, employees and the general public.
  • Manages complex or emotional customer situations promptly and professionally meeting commitments for service and assistance.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret highly complex regulations and procedures and respond to common inquiries or complaints.
  • Analyzes complex problems and develops alternative solutions and has demonstrated success in problem solving through use of data and information metrics and improvement to performance process.
  • Excellent planning, time management, collaboration, decision making, organization, presentation and negotiating skills with the ability to maintain stable performance under pressure or opposition; handling stress in manner that is acceptable to others and the organization.
  • Demonstrated success in leading, supervising, managing and developing staff and high performance teams.
  • Uses appropriate methods and a flexible interpersonal style to help build a cohesive team and facilitate the completion of team goals.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.

  • Minimum one year Big 4 Accounting Firm experience
  • Minimum four years industry experience
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified in Financial Management (CFM)
