About the position

The Accounting Manager at DriveTime will oversee all accounting operations for a business segment, ensuring compliance with GAAP and managing a team of accounting personnel. This role involves coordinating accounting activities, performing budget analyses, managing the general ledger, and supporting both internal and external audits. The position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all functions and projects related to accounting operations of a business segment.
  • Supervise and train reporting personnel.
  • Maintain the general ledger and supporting subsidiary ledgers in compliance with GAAP.
  • Coordinate accounting activities including review of complex issues and general reconciliations.
  • Perform budget to actual analysis and variance explanation.
  • Manage General Ledger for full cycle accounting.
  • Analyze and report on profitability for business segments.
  • Assist in preparation and communication of management reports.
  • Support the development and research of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Review and analyze inputs/outputs from significant accounting processes.
  • Manage staff through reviewing and approving reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Open lines of communication with Director of Accounting, CAO, and CFO.
  • Support external and internal auditors with quarterly reviews and annual audits.
  • Evaluate and improve upon existing accounting policies, reports, and reconciliations.
  • Research, analyze, and document conclusions on new accounting policies.
  • Ensure timely and professional handling of business unit requests and ad-hoc issues.
  • Continuously develop audit process improvements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of all transactions.
  • Challenge practices and develop new, efficient processes for accounting operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (licensed CPA preferred).
  • 5+ years overall experience in accounting.
  • Experience in an accounting leadership position or other management experience.
  • Prior GL experience or heavy public accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to develop and communicate accounting policies and procedures.
