About the position

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the accounting, budgeting, and reporting activities of the organization. This role collaborates closely with the Chief Financial Officer to formulate and review internal controls and policies, prepare financial statements, manage journal entries, assist in budgeting and forecasting, and ensure the accuracy of accounting information. A high level of reliability and attention to detail is essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee various accounting operations, such as billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
  • Prepare and publish monthly and annual financial statements, reports, and forecasts, including income statements and balance sheets.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
  • Supervise accounting staff.
  • Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices.
  • Manage journal entries and reconcile accounts for monthly or annual closing.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts.
  • Lead the preparation of the annual audit.
  • Utilize accounting IT systems to facilitate processes and maintain records.
  • Prepare various tax filings, including multi-state tax returns and corporate income tax.

Requirements

  • BSc/BA in accounting, finance or relevant field; experience in related field may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience as Accounting Manager or in a similar position.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting, etc.).
  • Understanding of data analysis and forecasting.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and accounting software (QuickBooks).
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Dependable and capable of working independently and collaboratively.
  • Well-organized with keen attention to detail and ability to prioritize.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional certification (e.g. CPA or Enrolled Agent) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of non-profit accounting and tax returns is a plus.
