About the position

The Accounting Manager at the Arizona Department of Economic Security is responsible for assisting the Assistant Chief Financial Officer in preparing various financial reports and providing support for accounting functions. This role involves overseeing accounts payable, payroll, account reconciliations, and general accounting, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation of the monthly financial package for the Governing Board and Administration, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Cross-train on Payroll, Accounts Payable, and General Accounting functions to provide support and guidance to staff.
• Prepare various governmental reports such as the Uniform Accounting Report and annual 990.
• Assist in the preparation of analysis and schedules for annual audits, serving as a key contact for audit inquiries.
• Reconcile quarterly payroll tax information and prepare related reports.
• Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and assist staff with open issues.
• Analyze and create adhoc financial reports to meet organizational needs.
• Prepare and distribute monthly departmental financial reports.
• Track and audit Physician Income guarantees in the general ledger.
• Work closely with department managers to provide financial information for decision-making.
• Assist in developing accounting processes for new programs and identify opportunities to improve financial controls.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance roles.
• Strong knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices.
• Experience with financial reporting and analysis.

Nice-to-haves

• CPA certification or equivalent.
• Experience with audit preparation and compliance.
