About the position

The Accounting Manager at Moxy Boston Downtown is responsible for leading the financial operations of the hotel, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and safeguarding the assets of owners and investors. This role involves managing cash flow, preparing financial statements, creating budgets, and providing guidance to management on financial objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage and communicate cash flow related issues.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements including cash flow statements, management of receivables, payables, and cash balances.
  • Monitor hotel revenues and expenses, ensuring accurate recording according to established guidelines.
  • Create annual budgets and conduct monthly variance analysis.
  • Investigate variances to budget or prior year and suggest improvements to management.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory licenses, permits, leases, contracts, and operational taxes.
  • Analyze financial data to assist management in maintaining financial objectives.
  • Review and approve all balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Establish and audit internal financial controls including purchasing, cash handling, and payroll.
  • Coordinate with CPA firms for internal and external financial audits.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and develop accounting staff.
  • Prepare financial reports in accordance with Highgate Hotels' requirements, meeting deadlines.
  • Interact with Executive Committee members to ensure property operations are on track.
  • Monitor compliance with report deadlines and ensure accurate production of daily operating reports.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of related progressive experience in hotel accounting or a related field.
  • A 4-year college degree with an Accounting/Finance concentration and a minimum of 2 years of related experience, or a 2-year college degree with a minimum of 4 years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in Windows, spreadsheets, word processing, and hotel-specific systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with employees and guests.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a managerial role within hotel accounting.
  • Familiarity with Highgate Hotels' standards and regulations.
