About the position

CROWN Cork & Seal USA, Inc. is a global leader in the design, manufacture, and sale of packaging products for consumer goods. The Plant Accountant position is a critical role within the organization, responsible for overseeing all accounting functions at the plant level. This includes managing month-end processes, preparing financial reports, conducting reconciliations, overseeing payroll, handling sales commissions, and managing accounts payable. The Plant Accountant will report directly to the Plant Manager and will play a key role in ensuring the financial integrity of the plant's operations. The responsibilities of the Plant Accountant extend beyond basic accounting tasks. The role involves compiling and analyzing financial information to prepare journal entries that document business transactions. The accountant will also prepare general ledger account and bank reconciliations, as well as financial statements and other reports that summarize the company's financial position. This includes month-end reporting, 8th day reporting, and gainshare analysis, along with maintaining the accounting policy database. In addition to these tasks, the Plant Accountant will identify control gaps and develop appropriate control procedures to resolve deficiencies. They will assist in preparation for internal and external audits and will be responsible for developing financial analysis and cost accounting skills. Performance management for any direct reports will also fall under their purview, along with overseeing payroll and accounts payable functions. The role may require performing other job-related duties as assigned, making it a dynamic and integral part of the plant's financial operations.

Responsibilities

  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare journal entries documenting business transactions.
  • Prepares GL Account and Bank Reconciliation.
  • Prepares financial statements and other reports to summarize the company's financial position, including month-end reporting and gainshare analysis.
  • Maintains Accounting Policy database.
  • Identifies control gaps and develops appropriate control procedures to resolve deficiencies.
  • Assists in preparation for internal and external audits.
  • Develops financial analysis and cost accounting skills.
  • Responsible for execution and coordination of physical inventory.
  • Performance Management for any direct reports.
  • Oversees payroll and accounts payable functions.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Solid understanding of accounting concepts and GAAP.
  • Proven track record of working in a team environment with a variety of departments.
  • Experience working with an ERP system.
  • Three (3) years of Plant Manufacturing experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Packaging industry experience.
  • IBM i AS400 experience.
