About the position

The Accounting Manager position at the Volusia Sheriff's Office is responsible for leading and managing the accounting functions of the agency. This role involves overseeing daily financial transactions, ensuring compliance with government standards, and preparing complex financial analyses to support informed decision-making. The position requires a strong focus on internal controls, financial reporting, and team development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a high-volume accounting team, ensuring accuracy of day-to-day financial transactions, reporting, and analysis.
  • Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to uphold fiscal responsibility and compliance with government standards.
  • Prepare month and year-end reconciliations and adjusting entries.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Maintain the general ledger, expense reports, revenue reports, and forecasting analysis.
  • Coordinate and prepare for annual audits and communicate with external auditors.
  • Administer the agency's grant program including budgeting, reporting, and policy development.
  • Mentor and develop team members by providing guidance on complex accounting procedures and government regulations.
  • Present financial analysis and reports to senior leadership and command staff, translating complex accounting data into actionable insights.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration/finance with an accounting minor.
  • Four years of experience in accounting or auditing, including one year in management.
  • A master's degree in accounting or MBA, CPA, or CGFO certificate may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Valid Driver's License.
