About the position

The Accounting Manager at the Hawai‘i Public Health Institute (HIPHI) is responsible for maintaining the organization's fiscal integrity through effective management of finance and accounting functions. This role involves ensuring compliance with GAAP and HIPHI's internal financial policies, while also fostering strong relationships with various stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and extensive knowledge in nonprofit budgeting and grants management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general accounting functions including accounts payable, payroll, and monthly close.
  • Support the finance team in establishing and improving standards of financial reporting across programs.
  • Assist with the development of sound accounting policies and procedures.
  • Maintain vendor information and oversee accounts payable processes.
  • Work with program leads to reconcile program expenses and prepare invoices according to grant timelines.
  • Track outstanding accounts receivable balances and follow up with funders on billing invoices.
  • Develop financial reports for internal and external stakeholders on program activities.
  • Monitor, update, and maintain grant budgets in accordance with funding requirements.
  • Assist in the financial management of HIPHI contracts and monitor compliance with funding provisions.
  • Coordinate with HIPHI staff to meet organizational goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • Five years of experience in grants programs and management, nonprofit accounting, or public accounting/auditing.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and proficiency in Quickbooks.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with nonprofit audits and preparing financial transactions.
