About the position

The Accounting Manager at Mercer-Zimmerman Inc Structura Inc is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting budgeting and audit activities. This role requires strong analytical skills and attention to detail to maintain accurate financial records and improve processes, while also managing a team of accounting staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger management.
  • Participate in the monthly financial close process, including preparation of journal entries, supporting schedules, and reconciling balance sheet accounts.
  • Drive the commission collection review process and reconcile commission payments between operating and accounting systems.
  • Conduct variance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting to support strategic decision-making.
  • Work with the Director of Accounting and Finance on internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with preparation of tax workpapers for third-party CPA firm and annual 401k audits.
  • Prepare government census reporting and file sales tax returns in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Oversee the payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll and quarterly/annual incentive bonus payouts.
  • Monitor payroll-related legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Assist in the administration of employee benefits, including health insurance and retirement plans.
  • Prepare annual Form 1099 and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with payroll and sales and use tax.
  • Proficiency in accounting and payroll software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, ADP) and advanced functions in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
