About the position

Knowesis is currently seeking a full-time Accounting Manager to oversee the daily operations of the accounting department. This remote position is crucial for maintaining financial oversight of all project activities, ensuring that accurate financial records are kept, and that compliance with government accounting regulations is upheld. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for preparing and maintaining accounting documents and records, as well as reconciling balance sheet accounts during month-end close processes. This role requires a thorough analysis of income statement accounts to ensure timely presentations of financial reports, as well as managing payroll journal entries, labor distributions, and associated reconciliations. In addition to these responsibilities, the Accounting Manager will engage in project accounting and reporting, applying cost accounting principles to various projects. Compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for financial statements is a critical aspect of this role. The manager will also be tasked with researching, tracking, and resolving any accounting and documentation discrepancies that may arise. Participation in monthly and fiscal-quarter closings is expected, including the review and approval of general ledger journal entries, as well as analyzing revenue recognition and expense variances. The role also involves compiling reports and summaries of financial activity for external monthly reviews, assisting with internal controls support, and participating in the annual audit process. Additionally, the Accounting Manager will assist with both direct and indirect cost budgets and may take on other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accounting documents and records
  • Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts for month close
  • Analyze income statement accounts for timely presentations of financial reports
  • Manage payroll journal entries, labor distributions, and associated reconciliations
  • Conduct project accounting and reporting; apply cost accounting for projects
  • Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for financial statements
  • Research, track, and resolve accounting and documentation discrepancies
  • Participate in monthly and fiscal-quarter closings, review and approve general ledger journal entries
  • Analyze revenue recognition and expense variances
  • Compile reports/summaries of financial activity for external monthly review
  • Assist with Internal Controls Support and the Annual Audit process
  • Assist with Direct and Indirect Cost Budgets
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working for a Government Contractor/experience with Government Contracting
  • Unanet experience is required
  • Familiarity with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)
  • Advanced experience with M.S. Office Excel (Pivot tables, vlookups, xlookups, Sumsif, etc.)
  • 3+ years of experience working in a similar accounting role
  • Attention to detail, strong communication, and professional presentation
