About the position

The Accounting Manager at Highgate Hotels plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of the hotel. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with regulations, and safeguarding the assets of owners and investors. The Accounting Manager will provide leadership and training to the management team, focusing on profitability and effective cash flow management.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage and communicate cash flow related issues.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements including cash flow statements, management of receivables, payables, and cash balances.
  • Monitor hotel revenues and expenses, ensuring accurate recording according to established guidelines.
  • Create annual budgets and conduct monthly variance analysis.
  • Investigate variances to budget or prior year and suggest improvement methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory licenses, permits, leases, contracts, and operational taxes.
  • Analyze financial data to assist management in achieving financial objectives.
  • Comply with Standard Accounting policies and procedures and internal controls.
  • Review and approve all balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Establish and audit internal financial controls including purchasing, cash handling, and payroll.
  • Coordinate internal and external financial audits with CPA firms.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and develop accounting staff.
  • Prepare financial reports in accordance with Highgate Hotels' requirements, meeting deadlines.
  • Interact with Executive Committee members to ensure property operations are on track.
  • Monitor compliance with report deadlines and react accordingly.
  • Produce the hotel daily operating report accurately.
  • Execute special projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of related progressive experience in hotel Accounting or related field; or a 4-year college degree with an Accounting/Finance concentration and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or a 2-year college degree and a minimum of 4 years of related experience.
  • Proficient in Windows, company-approved spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of employees and guests.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle problems effectively, including anticipating and solving issues.
