About the position

At Great Gray Trust Company, the Accounting Manager plays a crucial role in managing the month-end close process and supervising the work of the Financial Analyst and other team members. This position is integral to ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial reporting, which is essential for maintaining the trust of clients and stakeholders. The Accounting Manager will report directly to the Corporate Controller and will be responsible for overseeing various accounting functions, including accounts payable, employee expenses, payroll, and accruals. The role requires a strong understanding of US GAAP and the ability to develop and implement accounting policies and procedures that comply with these standards. The Accounting Manager will also lead the effort to complete the year-end audit by coordinating with auditors and providing necessary documentation. This position is based in Wilmington, DE, and supports a hybrid work model, allowing for four days onsite and one day remote work each week. In addition to technical accounting skills, the Accounting Manager must possess excellent analytical and quantitative skills, be detail-oriented, and have the flexibility to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading accounting processes in high-growth companies and will be reliable and responsive to business requests.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the month-end close process and supervise the work of the Financial Analyst and others.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable and ensure timely payment of vendor bills, compliance with the company's purchasing policies, and proper recording of expenses.
  • Oversee corporate credit cards and expense reimbursement, ensuring compliance with the company's expense policy and proper recording of expenses.
  • Partner with HR department to manage payroll accounting, ensuring accurate employee pay and proper recording of payroll expenses.
  • Lead the month-end accruals process and formalize procedures to capture all unrecorded liabilities.
  • Develop and implement standard accounting policies and procedures compliant with US GAAP in collaboration with the Controller.
  • Lead the effort to complete the year-end audit by partnering with auditors to coordinate walkthroughs and provide requested documentation.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5-7 years relevant experience in corporate or public accounting roles with progressive levels of supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, general corporate accounting, and technical accounting.
  • Ability to lead and manage a month-end close in a fast-paced accounting environment at a high-growth company.
  • Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP, with the ability to easily adapt to new technologies.
  • Experience developing, documenting, and implementing corporate accounting policies, processes, and controls, and writing accounting memos.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Flexibility in handling multiple priorities in a fast-changing environment.
  • Reliable and responsive to business requests.

Nice-to-haves

  • Degree in finance or accounting.
