About the position

As an Accounting Manager at Cummins, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing specialized accounting functions within the Components Business Segment in Hartford, CT. You will be responsible for maintaining the department's general ledger, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of accounting transactions, and resolving any complex accounting issues that may arise from both routine and non-routine transactions. Your expertise will be crucial in reviewing general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and various internal and external reports, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal controls. In this role, you will also be tasked with developing and implementing new internal controls as necessary, making recommendations to enhance accounting processes, and ensuring adherence to new accounting standards. You will provide training to both new and existing staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within your team. Your ability to communicate effectively with management, auditors, and other stakeholders will be essential as you respond to inquiries regarding financial results and special reporting requests. Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee specialized accounting work to maintain the department's general ledger.
  • Resolve complex accounting issues from routine and non-routine transactions.
  • Manage a team of accountants and oversee complex processes that interact with multiple individuals outside the department.
  • Ensure timely recording, analyzing, and reporting of accounting transactions.
  • Review general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and internal and external reports.
  • Respond to inquiries from management, auditors, and other stakeholders regarding financial results.
  • Review existing internal controls and develop new controls as necessary.
  • Make and implement recommendations to improve accounting processes and procedures.
  • Implement new accounting standards and provide training to staff as needed.
  • Protect the organization's value by maintaining confidentiality of information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Chartered Accountant, or similar certification required.
  • Significant experience in accounting, including supervisory experience.
  • Experience in manufacturing plant and complex accounting processes.
  • Knowledge of finance systems and tools such as Oracle, Bolt, JDE, Planful, and HFM is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop talent within the team.
  • Experience in evaluating business processes to identify risks and internal control gaps.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with financial regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and trends.
