About the position

Randstad is assisting a construction company with a direct-hire search for an Accounting Manager. This role involves overseeing a team of 9 clerks and accountants, ensuring that the accounting department runs smoothly and efficiently. The position offers a competitive salary range of $100,000 to $125,000 per year, along with excellent benefits, including an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). The working hours are structured from Monday to Thursday, 6:30 AM to 3:45 PM, and Friday from 6:30 AM to 11:30 AM. This role is not strictly accounting; it requires a dynamic individual capable of working closely with field operations and solving complex issues within the construction industry. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for team management, operational collaboration, accounting and financial management, audit assistance, payroll management, billing and accounts receivable, contract knowledge, accounts payable, job setup, and customer service. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting and the ability to implement changes effectively while maintaining excellent communication and collaboration with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Screen and hire new employees.
  • Manage accounting team, job setup, and partially customer service.
  • Fill in for team members when necessary.
  • Work with the VP and Operation Manager to solve accounting/finance problems and implement changes.
  • Implement process and procedure changes.
  • Assist the CFO in month-end and year-end tasks.
  • Assist the CFO, CPA, and TPA in the annual audit.
  • Perform reconciliation and job costing for overbudget jobs.
  • Assist the CPA in the annual year-end audit.
  • Compose audit letters and prepare contract, job, payroll, and cost files.
  • Work closely with auditors.
  • Handle office payroll and manage employee setup/changes.
  • Ensure tax reconciliation and payments.
  • Process piecework and hourly payroll for 400+ employees.
  • Check reconciliation and perform aging review and follow-up.
  • Manage contract billing and AIA billing, including lien filing.
  • Understand terms of payment and billing forms, managing mechanic lien processes.
  • Oversee data entry, reconciliation, and check processing management for accounts payable.
  • Manage Supply Pro/Vendor sites and set up job costs and contracts.
  • Manage work orders, payments, and invoicing.

Requirements

  • Must have construction accounting experience.
  • Ability to work with both accounting and field operations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to implement changes.
  • Experience with job costing and overbudget jobs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Degree is not required.
  • Experience with Sage is a plus.
  • Must have 1+ year of Supervisory experience.
