About the position

The Accounting Manager at Harris-Stowe State University is responsible for overseeing the accounts payable function, maintaining financial records, and preparing financial reports to ensure accurate financial data for the institution. This role involves collaboration with various departments to support financial activities such as budgeting, auditing, and financial planning.

Responsibilities

• Manage and direct activities related to the general ledger accounting system, student disbursements, purchasing, and accounts payable systems.
• Supervise A/P staff, determine work priorities, delegate tasks, train, and evaluate staff work.
• Manage and direct stand-alone financial reporting, financial analysis, and other assigned activities.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports for various reporting agencies, including campus, state, and federal government.
• Assist with budget preparation, cash management, internal audit, internal controls and compliance, and establishment of new procedures.
• Ensure accuracy of financial data and implementation of new financial systems.
• Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures to improve overall operations, efficiency, and effectiveness.
• Assist in developing and implementing procedures to manage the University cash flow.
• Make recommendations to leadership regarding policy decisions and problem-solving.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• CPA with 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in higher education or non-profit organization.
• Knowledge of accounting and auditing standards and regulations.
• Sound management skills within a diverse environment.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledgeable in computer applications.
• Working knowledge of GASB, grants, and foundation accounting.
• Experience with ERP and financial reporting systems management/maintenance.
