About the position

The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee key financial operations within the organization. This position is crucial for ensuring that the financial workflows are managed efficiently and in compliance with regulatory standards. The Accounting Manager will report directly to the Controller and will be responsible for various financial operations including Accounts Payable, Cash Receipts and Revenue, Payroll, 403B, and Month-End Closing processes. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and possess strong leadership skills to streamline these financial processes while ensuring accuracy and compliance. In this role, the Accounting Manager will handle payroll processing on a bi-weekly basis, ensuring that all timesheets are reviewed for accuracy and that any discrepancies are addressed promptly. The manager will also be responsible for preparing payroll journal entries and reconciling the Quarterly Form 941 to the General Ledger. Additionally, the role involves performing monthly bank account reconciliations, managing grants receivable, and entering cash receipts and revenue journal entries. The Accounting Manager will prepare reports for management and development, ensuring that all financial data is accurate and up-to-date. The position also includes oversight of Accounts Payable transactions, reviewing corporate credit card journal entries, and assisting the Staff Accountant with 1099 filing. The Accounting Manager will play a key role in the month-end close process, preparing and entering journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and assisting the Controller with audit preparations and the annual budget process. This role may also involve special projects as assigned, making it a dynamic and engaging position within the BPC.

Responsibilities

  • Process and review payroll on a bi-weekly basis for transmittal to payroll service
  • Prepare corresponding payroll journal entry
  • Follow-up with staff on outstanding timesheets
  • Review timesheets for errors and make any necessary corrections
  • Respond to any staff questions regarding timesheets or pay stubs and withholding
  • Prepare and submit 403(b) contributions
  • Reconcile the Quarterly Form 941 to the General Ledger
  • Perform monthly bank account reconciliations
  • Perform grants receivable reconciliation
  • Enter cash receipts and revenue journal entries; reconcile Accounts Receivable; prepare reports for management and development
  • Review all Accounts Payable transactions prepared by the Staff Accountant
  • Review corporate credit card journal entries and supporting documentation prepared by the Staff Accountant on a monthly basis
  • Serve as a backup for the Staff Accountant
  • Assist Staff Accountant with 1099 filing
  • Perform various month end allocations
  • Prepare and enter all month-end journal entries
  • Perform various account reconciliations and work to resolve any discrepancies
  • Assist Controller with audit preparation and preparing Form 990
  • Assist Controller with annual budget process, tools, reporting, etc.
  • Other duties/Special projects as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting is required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting standards
  • 3-5 years of experience in non-profit accounting
  • 2 years or more experience as a senior accountant
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
  • Experience with accounting software and ERP systems; proficiency in Great Plains/Solomon is a plus
  • Experience with ERP implementation is a plus
  • Experience with FRx Financial Report Writer preferred
  • Knowledge of ADP platforms preferred
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
