About the position

The Accounting Manager at Highgate Hotels is responsible for leading the financial operations of the hotel, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and safeguarding the assets of owners and investors. This role involves managing cash flow, preparing financial statements, creating budgets, and overseeing internal controls, while also providing guidance and training to management and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage and communicate cash flow related issues, including preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Monitor hotel revenues and expenses, ensuring accurate recording according to established guidelines.
  • Create annual budgets and conduct monthly variance analysis, offering practical improvement methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory licenses, permits, leases, contracts, and operational taxes.
  • Analyze financial data to assist management in maintaining financial objectives.
  • Comply with Standard Accounting policies and procedures and internal controls for finance and accounting operations.
  • Review and approve all balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Establish and audit internal financial controls including purchasing, cash handling, and payroll.
  • Complete all internal and external financial audits, coordinating with CPA firms.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and develop accounting staff.
  • Maintain compliance with Highgate Hotels' standards and regulations.
  • Prepare financial reports in accordance with Highgate Hotels' requirements, meeting deadlines.
  • Interact with Executive Committee members to ensure property operations are on track.
  • Monitor compliance with report deadlines and ensure accurate production of daily operating reports.
  • Execute special projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of related progressive experience in hotel Accounting or related field; or a 4-year college degree with an Accounting/Finance concentration and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or a 2-year college degree and a minimum of 4 years of related experience.
  • Proficient in Windows, spreadsheets, word processing, and hotel-specific systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of employees and guests.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle problems effectively, including anticipating and solving issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a managerial role within hotel accounting.
  • Familiarity with hospitality industry financial regulations and standards.
