About the position

The Accounting Manager- Americas position is based in Manhattan and reports directly to the Assistant Corporate Controller- Americas. This role is pivotal in supervising a team of four employees located in the Manhattan support office, overseeing their workpapers, and ensuring the preparation of various statutory financial statements. The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing and executing the month-end close process, as well as preparing reporting requirements for the Group Team. This includes providing effective direction and oversight for specific functions within the accounting department, such as reporting, balance sheet management, and specific expense categories. The role emphasizes training and developing the current accounting team, maintaining high standards for accuracy, integrity, and adherence to deadlines. In addition to supervising junior team members and reviewing their work, the Accounting Manager will lead the production and consolidation of monthly results, including the creation of reporting packages that support the commercial review process and quarterly/annual reporting requirements. Financial statements are prepared in accordance with UK GAAP for group reporting purposes, but the Accounting Manager will also oversee US GAAP reconciliation and the preparation of non-statutory financial statements. Collaboration with accounts payable, treasury, payroll, tax, and FP&A is essential for meeting month-end close requirements, and clear communication of deadlines and expectations is a key responsibility. The Accounting Manager will also provide support for annual audit activities, working closely with both internal and external auditors to ensure timely delivery of audit requirements and see audits through to completion. The role involves partnering with the Corporate Controller and Assistant Corporate Controller to evolve the capabilities of the accounting function, focusing on accounting/reporting requirements, process improvements, and the implementation of new technology and automation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff and review workpapers.
  • Prepare various statutory financial statements.
  • Manage and execute the month-end close process.
  • Prepare reporting requirements for the Group Team.
  • Train and develop the accounting team to ensure high standards of accuracy and integrity.
  • Ensure completion of monthly close activities, including supervision of junior team members.
  • Lead production and consolidation of monthly results, including reporting packages for commercial review.
  • Oversee US GAAP reconciliation and preparation of non-statutory financial statements.
  • Collaborate with accounts payable, treasury, payroll, tax, and FP&A on month-end close requirements.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in accounting management, with a mix of public and private accounting preferred.
  • Experience in the hospitality, retail, and/or CPG industries is highly preferred.
  • Exposure to a multi-location or multi-business environment is beneficial.
  • Strong technical accounting skills and a solid academic background in accounting, finance, or a related field are essential.
  • CPA certification is required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of US GAAP reporting and regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley is necessary.
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP functionality, with previous experience in new ERP implementation desired.
  • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel modeling and data handling.
