About the position

The Accounting Manager at Goosehead Insurance plays a crucial role in the accounting organization, ensuring the delivery of timely, accurate, and insightful financial information to management and investors. This position is integral to helping the company make informed and decisive decisions. The Accounting Manager will lead and mentor a team of accountants, serving as a subject matter expert in accounting for both operating and capital expenditures. This role requires ensuring that monthly and quarterly financial results and processes comply with GAAP and SOX standards. Success in this position demands a motivated self-starter who can adapt to a high-growth, rapidly changing environment. In this role, the Accounting Manager will lead all accounting activities related to operating and capital expenditures. They will motivate and mentor their team, emphasizing high levels of service, accuracy, and timeliness. The position involves creating a collaborative environment within the Accounting team, facilitating communication and problem-solving with both the Accounting team and the broader Goosehead team. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, as well as preparing monthly financial statement analyses and assisting the team in documenting their analyses appropriately. Additionally, the Accounting Manager will prepare ad hoc analyses to support management decision-making, proactively identifying and delivering key insights into financial performance. They will assist in the preparation of quarterly SEC filings, which includes preparing supporting schedules, analyses, external documentation, and audit requests. The role also involves identifying opportunities for process improvement and leading special projects aimed at enhancing processes within the Accounting and Finance organization. Furthermore, the Accounting Manager will develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting activities related to operating expenditures and capital expenditures
  • Lead, motivate, and mentor a team of accountants with emphasis on providing high levels of service, accuracy, and timeliness
  • Create a collaborative environment within the Accounting team by communicating and problem solving with members of the Accounting and broader Goosehead team
  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly financial statement analyses and assist team in appropriately preparing and documenting their analyses
  • Prepare ad hoc analyses to support management decision making, including proactively identifying and delivering key insights to financial performance
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly SEC filings, including preparation of supporting schedules, analyses, external documentations, and audit requests
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and initiate and lead special projects designed to improve processes within the Accounting and Finance organization
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • Master's degree a plus
  • CPA or CPA eligible a plus
  • 5-8+ years of experience in public accounting and/or a public company; Big 4 experience a plus
  • Advanced Excel experience required
  • Demonstrated propensity for identifying and achieving process improvements
  • Ability and drive to build strong relationships within and beyond the Executive Leadership team
