About the position

The Accounting Manager at The Salvation Army - Northern Division is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting and ledgers, guiding departments with budgeting and forecasting, and mentoring finance staff. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining financial integrity and supporting the organization's mission through effective financial management.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate ledgers, financial reporting, and budgeting (25%)
• Prepare timely financial statements and assist with budgeting, including preparation of consolidated financial statements (25%)
• Review and approve budgeting, accounting, and reporting functions of assigned departments/locations (15%)
• Act as a resource regarding complex financial transactions and reporting/tracking of funding (15%)
• Support and guide assigned departments/locations with understanding/monitoring financial matters and forecasting (10%)
• Develop and maintain internal accounting procedure manual (10%)

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or relevant experience in lieu of degree
• Five years of accounting experience required, non-profit accounting experience highly preferred
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet MVR driver's qualifications
• Ability to pass background checks
• Extensive knowledge of accounting, budgeting, grant compliance, and financial reporting
• Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
• Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• High level of honor in dealing with confidential information
• Integrity and diligence in work

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a nonprofit organization
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Adobe, General Ledgers, and standard office equipment
