About the position

Saint Thomas Academy is seeking a full-time Accounting Manager who will play a crucial role in the financial management of the institution. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who enjoys interacting with a variety of people and possesses strong organizational skills. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for a wide range of financial activities including accounting, cash management, accounts receivable, and financial reporting. The role involves managing student account billings, analyzing and preparing general ledger entries, and reconciling bank accounts. The successful candidate will also manage the Sage Intacct general ledger, ensuring accurate user access and reporting, and will be responsible for quarterly reconciliations of general ledger accounts, as well as managing the accounting for the Ice Arena and Quartermaster and Cadet Maker store. In addition to these responsibilities, the Accounting Manager will prepare materials for the annual audit, assist in the budgeting process by analyzing year-over-year trends, and monitor short-term cash needs while preparing cash flow projections. The role also includes reviewing and updating internal controls as necessary. The Accounting Manager will be expected to participate in various STA events, fundraisers, and athletic events, as well as engage in professional development opportunities to enhance their knowledge and maintain professional licensure. Responsibilities

  • Manage student account billings and related accounting functions, including tuition revenue reconciliation, tuition billing, and processing payments.
  • Analyze and prepare general ledger entries and reconcile bank accounts.
  • Manage and maintain the Sage Intacct general ledger chart of accounts, user access, and reports.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts quarterly and manage endowment and restricted/unrestricted gifts between systems.
  • Prepare materials to support the annual audit.
  • Assist in the budgeting process by analyzing year-over-year trends and finalizing details in SIP/Sage Intacct.
  • Manage Ice Arena accounting, including annual audit, 990, bank reconciliation, and ad hoc analysis.
  • Manage Quartermaster and Cadet Maker store accounting, reporting, and year-end inventory reconciliations.
  • Analyze Fixed Asset and Capitalized Lease accounting to determine capitalization policy compliance.
  • Monitor short-term cash needs and prepare cash flow projections.
  • Review and update Internal Controls as needed.
  • Provide ad hoc analysis and support for various financial requests and control procedures.
  • Attend STA events, Command Performances, fundraisers, and athletic events as prescribed by the President.
  • Participate in professional growth, in-services, workshops, and staff development opportunities.
  • Attend faculty, department, and committee meetings as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with appropriate accounting experience.
  • CPA license (active or inactive) preferred.
  • Minimum five years of experience in accounting.
  • Two or more years of auditing experience or equivalent experience working with auditors.
  • Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficiency with Excel and working knowledge of other Microsoft products.
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud Tuition software (desired).
  • Knowledge of Sage Intacct general ledger software (desired).
  • Familiarity with Raiser's Edge or RE NXT, Microsoft Office, and/or Google suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to perform highly detailed and analytical work.
