About the position

The Accounting Manager position at Aston Carter focuses on ensuring compliance with GAAP and SOX standards while managing financial operations for one or more branches. The role requires strong interpersonal skills to develop relationships with branch management and involves responsibilities such as month-end closing, financial forecasting, and ad hoc reporting. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of accounting principles, particularly in the construction industry, and will be expected to drive financial performance through effective management of billing and collections.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure branch monthly/quarterly compliance with GAAP and SOX reporting compliance and testing standards.
  • Work with branch management to manage financial requests and issue resolution.
  • Actively participate in monthly project reviews and collaborate with branch operations and project teams to analyze project trends and inefficiencies, identify risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Update and review branch financial tools for monthly reporting during branch reviews and month-end preliminary financials.
  • Assist in the annual planning and monthly forecasting process by entering and reviewing expenses, backlog, and other financial data as needed.
  • Maximize billing, drive collections, create future week forecasts, and manage opportunities to maximize branch cash performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field AND 4+ years of relevant, job-related experience OR 6+ years of relevant, job-related experience in the construction industry (without a degree).
  • Well-rounded financial experience - including experience with budgeting, forecasting, and interpreting financial data.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills, analytical ability, and attention to detail.
  • Capacity to successfully execute job tasks in a fast-paced environment under limited supervision.
  • Previous financial experience in the construction industry.
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Functional knowledge of the Work In Progress (WIP) schedule.
  • Experience with Viewpoint construction software.
  • Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX 404) compliance.
  • Experience in companies with $10 million+ in revenue.
