About the position

The Accounting Manager at Melissa & Doug will play a crucial role in enhancing the finance organization by overseeing general accounting and accounts payable functions. This position involves leading the monthly closing process, implementing new accounting processes, and collaborating with various departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the company's General Accounting and Accounts Payable functions
• Lead the monthly closing process, including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and detailed variance analysis
• Identify inefficiency in the close process and implement necessary changes such as workflow and technical improvements
• Responsible for leading a team including motivating, coaching, training and mentoring team members
• Assist FP&A in monthly reporting to ensure the proper reporting of transactions within entities, accounts and departments
• Provide technical accounting support including establishing policies, drafting technical accounting memos and implementing new accounting pronouncements
• Support the annual financial statement audit and ensure appropriate controls over accounting and financial reporting
• Partner with various functions and business owners to drive key system implementation initiatives and improvements
• Partner with the Spin Master Accounting team and broader Finance function to integrate processes

Requirements

• 7-10 years of relevant experience; ideally includes experience within a public company
• BA/BS in Accounting, Finance or related discipline required, CPA preferred
• Experience with complex ERP systems such as Oracle Fusion or SAP
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, SOX, and SEC reporting requirements
• Experience creating, implementing, managing, and monitoring effective internal controls
• Passionate about leading change and solving problems
