About the position

The Accounting Manager will oversee the accounting operations in Grand Rapids, Michigan, focusing on financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls. This role involves collaborating with management to contribute to the financial strategy while managing daily accounting activities and leading a team of accountants.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the accounting department
  • Handle the general ledger, including oversight of all reconciliations and analysis
  • Ensure all financial data is accurately recorded through a timely and efficient close process
  • Assist in the preparation, analysis, and compliance of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Oversee the timely preparation and remittance of all tax filings, ensuring compliance with all regulations and standards
  • Manage and monitor the company's assets, ensuring accurate valuation
  • Develop, document, and enforce accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and ensure proper financial controls
  • Collaborate with external auditors and manage audit activities to ensure compliance with financial regulations
  • Assist the finance team with the annual budgeting process, including variance analysis and forecasting
  • Continuously improve accounting and financial reporting functions through process improvement, documentation creation, and cross-training
  • Lead and mentor a team of accountants, fostering a positive working environment and promoting teamwork and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Proficient in Accounting Software Systems
  • Familiarity with ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning is required
  • Must have a strong understanding of accounting functions
  • Experience with Month End Close process is essential
  • Must have experience in Financial Statement Preparation
  • CPA or CMA designation is necessary
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
