About the position

The Accounting Manager at IHG is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the hotel, ensuring accurate accounting practices, and maintaining control over expenses, income, assets, and liabilities. This role involves managing lower-level accounting staff and collaborating with various departments to promote teamwork and quality service. The position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, as well as the ability to perform financial analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Dir Area Finance, Dir Finance and/or Assistant Dir Finance with preparation of the Budget, Strategic Plan, and Goals program.
  • Perform or assist in the performance of month-end closing, including input and reconciliation of all income, preparation of reports, and verification of Trial Balance.
  • Input General Ledger entries and journal vouchers, ensuring timely posting of daily transactions in accordance with accounting principles.
  • Prepare tax reconciliations, payments, reports, and maintain necessary records for tax filings.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports according to reporting calendars.
  • Conduct financial and statistical analysis, forecasting, and special projects as needed.
  • Manage daily accounting activities and assignments of accounting staff, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
  • Participate in inventory taking and verification, and conduct monthly credit meetings.
  • Review and verify accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely completion of necessary schedules.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through communication with other departments.
  • Audit payroll and supervise the Accounting department in the absence of the Assistant Director of Finance & Accounting.
  • Interact with guests and regulatory agencies to resolve issues and ensure compliance.
  • Train subordinate staff and ensure they have the necessary tools for their roles.

Requirements

  • Some College plus 2+ years hotel accounting or auditing experience including management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Mathematical skills including budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances.
  • Problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational, and training abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with computerized financial reporting systems and programs.
  • Ability to maintain spreadsheets using various software systems.
