About the position

The Accounting Officer for the Department of English at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is responsible for managing procurement and accounting operations. This role involves processing expense requests, reconciling financial transactions, and ensuring compliance with university policies. The officer will also assist in training new cardholders, manage financial statements, and support various administrative tasks within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Process and reconcile expense request transactions for the Department.
  • Process Travel and Expense reports using university systems, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Correspond with cardholders regarding departmental policies and assist with training for new cardholders.
  • Manage p-card and t-card for travel arrangements and procurement of goods.
  • Review and compile monthly financial statements, verifying accuracy and appropriateness of transactions.
  • Review account information for proper depositing to various fund types and ensure documentation is retained.
  • Analyze fiscal reports monthly and assist with management and retention of fiscal files.
  • Run standard reports for the business office and distribute as needed.
  • Process adjustment entries and requests, including journal vouchers and stop payments.
  • Manage tracking sheets for timely completion of fiscal transactions.
  • Back up office reception duties and assist in delivering documents across campus.
  • Assist in coordinating department inventory when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of coursework in accounting or related fields, or equivalent work experience in bookkeeping or office support.
