About the position

The Accounting/Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing the financial records and payroll processes of an established construction company. This role is crucial for ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles and payroll regulations, while also providing support to employees regarding payroll inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Full charge bookkeeping for the construction company.
  • Coordinating payroll for all salary, hourly, and piece-work employees with an outside payroll processor.
  • Maintaining employee records, including new hires, terminations, and changes in pay rates.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
  • Performing data entry tasks related to payroll processing and maintaining accurate accounting records.
  • Conducting regular audits of payroll data to identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
  • Preparing reports related to company finances and payroll metrics for management review.
  • Responding to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues, deductions, and tax-related questions.

Requirements

  • Experience in a construction office setting.
  • Experience with job-costing construction projects.
  • Understanding and experience with Prelims, Releases, and Joint Checks.
  • Experience reconciling vendor statements, invoices, and credits.
  • Ability to maintain vendor and customer relationships.
  • Knowledge and understanding of prevailing wage projects and requirements.
  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper and Payroll Specialist or similar role within accounting or human resources.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks Enterprise.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and practices related to payroll processing.
  • Excellent data entry skills with a focus on accuracy.
  • Bilingual (Spanish).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive employee information.
  • Excellent communication skills for interaction with employees at all levels of the organization.
